God Has Stars for You

Proverbs 3:5-12
On March 2, 2012, scientists make a new neutron star discovery.  This is the headline of an article found at RedOrbit.com.  I think this is God teasing us.  While we think we know everything and have discovered everything God says, "surprise!"
“We saw exactly the evolution that theory predicts, for the first time,” Deepto Chakrabarty, professor of physics at MIT, and a member of the research team, said in a press release. “But the question is, why didn’t we see that before?”

These stars have always been there but we couldn't see them.  The same thing happens as we experience the unexplainable.  You might say, "I have tried following God's instructions in the Bible but things just are not working our for me."  Try adding to the end of that sentence:  not yet.  The life of faith means we can't see everything God has for us.  I Corinthians 13:12 says, "For now we see through a glass darkly...."

The life of faith will take you to a place where you will find new stars for your life.   God has light for you unlike anything you have ever dreamed about.  But, you have to stick to His plan. At the time of this writing in Proverbs, God's plan was basically the 10 Commandments and if those laws are kept, even today, you will have a good life.

About 30 years ago one of my former players called and told me that he and his girlfriend were going to live together because they were in love and they couldn't afford to get married.  And, the figured they would give their relationship this test run without going through the formality of marriage.  He only called to tell me so that I would not hear from others.  After a few years they did get married but that marriage only lasted three years.  What happened?  I thought he said they would do the test run to prevent making a mistake.  Later he married another person, they have lovely children and a beautiful life.

The pain of breaking God's law usually helps us learn from our mistakes but why are we so stubborn? Why do we think we are so smart that we can over ride God's plan with our logic?  Do you think the people who invested with Bernie Madoff were smart?  They thought they were at the time they turned over their funds to him.  They would brag about their profits while other investors weren't doing so good.  Many probably knew that what is too good to be true is probably not true.  Greed might seem the way to go as you get caught up in it but God has a way of proving His laws are really laws that cannot be broken without consequence.

Proverbs 3:5-12 in The Message translation goes like this:

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own.  Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track. Don't assume that you know it all. Run to God!  Run from evil!  Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life!  Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best.  Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over.  But don't dear friend, resent God's discipline; don't sulk under his loving correction.  It's the child he loves that God corrects; a father's delight is behind all this.

Leaning on our human understanding of things will end up destroying us so why do we keep trying this strategy?  We're broken and separated from God until we invite him in to take charge of our lives.  We're arrogant and fooled by the fact that most of our lives are pretty good so the good becomes the enemy of the great.  Let's try running to God every day then we're ready when things happen that we do not understand.  We have to get into the habit of running to God.

This passage is clear about what I call the true prosperity gospel, not the bad ideas you hear on the TV.  When you, "Honor God with everything you own" God blesses you.  I can't explain it but it works.  It's hard to write that check, not for me since Lydia does it for us, but when funds are low you might think you won't follow this instruction.  This is a mistake because the law is clear. We are to give back of our money, our time and ourselves.

Next, we need to understand that discipline is not punishment; it is a learning opportunity.  How lucky we are that God loves us so much that He takes time to teach us.  If God did not love us he would let us all go on in our stupidity.

Try keeping God's laws in faith and I promise, you'll find new stars in your life. You'll have light like never before.  The sky will shine for you.
